Danbury, CT - "Hat City" is the nickname for Danbury because it was once the center of the beaver hat making industry back in the 1800's. Danbury has come a long way since the 1800's and is pretty cosmopolitan for a smaller city.
Danbury is the center of shopping for the surrounding towns - the Danbury Fair Mall is at exit 3 and Federal Road at exit 7 is where Stew Leonard's, car dealerships, furniture stores and home improvement stores are all located. Danbury has several parks and also borders on Candlewood Lake.
Western Connecticut University (WESTCONN) is located in Danbury and offers a wide variety of study areas for students. The O'Neill Center is located on the Western Campus and is a large multi-purpose athletic facility. The Ives Center is for performing arts and the outdoor concert series that is offered every summer is quite popular.
